A New, Climate-Conscious Evening of Dance for Resilience and Intergenerational Connection

Such Rooted Things is a new dance work that speaks powerfully to its place and time, connecting our human stories to the environment in which we live and the fragile ecology of coastal South Florida. The work combines movement, film, and original music into a multidimensional theater experience that is at once timely, relevant, poignant, and wholly electrifying. The performance draws from interviews with 10 women from different backgrounds, ages, and ethnicities across Miami-Dade County who are experiencing the effects of climate change in their neighborhoods. The project includes a choreographic collaboration between Dale Andree and her daughter, Thryn Saxon, exploring themes of intergenerational connection in relation to climate change, and a collaborative work by Thryn and her dance partner Brad Beakes. An original film created for this piece will be screened inside PAMM.

Such Rooted Things is supported in part by a grant given to NWD Projects by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation’s Knight Arts Challenge, an initiative that supports ideas that connect people to place and each other through art.

Dale Andree’s Such Rooted Things is being shown immediately following Sandra Portal Andreu’s CIRCA/MIA, as part of a special double-bill of two new works on May 13 &14.
