Live Arts Miami’s presents EarthVerse, a virtual spoken word, and poetry program for the future of our planet. Join us for two powerful workshops led by Darius V. Daughtry and Marnino Toussaint from Art Prevails Project, two poets whose work speaks meaningfully to the global climate crisis centering the experiences of the communities most vulnerable to its effects. Connect to the power of words through EarthVerse with some of Miami’s most powerful voices in performance poetry and experience poetry’s power to connect us to each other and the planet we inhabit!
*MDC students – be sure to join the Fred Shaw and Miami Verse College-Wide Poetry Contests with poems you create after learning from Art Prevails Project. Winners from the contest will be invited to share their poems as part of the Sustainapalooza poetry on April 7 hour along with our guest spoken word artists Darius V. Daughtry and Marnino Toussant live via zoom.
Meet the artists:
Darius V. Daughtry
Poet, social critic and educator working to bring art to all communities.
An accomplished poet, playwright, director, and educator with over a decade worth of experience in South Florida and beyond, Darius has committed himself to using the arts as a vehicle for change. He is the Founder and Artistic Director of Art Prevails Project, a performing arts organization dedicated to expanding cultural conversation through theatrical performance, arts education, and community engagement. Darius has spearheaded literacy initiatives with NFL Hall-of-Famer Jason Taylor and poet and actor, Omari Hardwick.
Darius has been commissioned to write, perform, and conduct workshops for various organizations: The Poetry Foundation, The U.S. Naval Academy, O, Miami, City of Fort Lauderdale, Miami-Dade Schools, Broward Schools, and more.
He has written and directed performances for numerous groups and organizations – ArtServe (RedEye), Broward Cultural Division (Sistrunk Market Place, State of Black Broward), Old Dillard Museum (Juneteenth, Kwanzaa), The World Aids Museum (Saving Grace), and more. Mr. Daughtry is currently a member of the Sistrunk Artists in Residence cohort.

Marnino Toussaint
A South Florida-based RnB and Hip Hop singer, rapper, and songwriter who uses a fusion of Hip/Hop, R&B, and poetry to create contagious sounds and relatable narratives that delivers something for everyone.
Marnino has been on the stages of Tedx Miami, Broward 100’s Duende!, and has worked alongside the likes of actors Omari Hardwick and Victoria Justice, author Mary Pope Osborne and has opened for Hip Hop legend, Chuck D. This year, Marnino had the opportunity to perform at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles, California as part of their ceremony honoring musical legend and activist, Harry Belafonte.
While he loves to sing about love, Marnino lives to inspire activism and connectivity in his community.
Marnino gives back to the community by teaching poetry and songwriting workshops in partnership with different arts initiative across the United States.
