Building Community, Staging Success

Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire. – William Butler Yeats

Our educational programs and activities broaden the local horizon of possibilities by empowering working artists, local students and the next generation of arts audiences to create Miami’s brightest future through vibrant and edifying exchange and collaboration across differences in the live arts.

Engaging Democracy’s College

Live Arts Miami offers transformative arts experiences for MDC students and educators such as innovative residencies and other activities designed to integrate the live arts into classrooms and enhance the learning process.

As part of our commitment to empowering historically underserved communities, we regularly engage the MDC student body– the largest, most diverse and one of the most underprivileged in the nation, with 185 countries and 94 languages represented, and close to half living below the federal poverty line.

To promote active student engagement and bolster academic success. Our educational programs advance the Changemaking Goals of the College, aligned with the UN sustainable development goals, and the College’s broader learning outcomes.

Educational programming includes special residencies, classroom visits, live arts colloquia, pop-up performances, and creative lecture-demonstrations to allow for intimate interaction with and mentoring by established professional artists.

We work in collaboration with the Social Change Initiatives of the Earth Ethics Institute, the Institute for Civic Engagement and Democracy (iCED) and MDC Student Life, as well as faculty across departments and programs including Honors College, New World of the Arts, and SEDT (School of Entertainment, Design, and Technology) and others.

We offer free tickets to all students of Miami Dade College and provide discount rates for faculty, staff, general students, and groups to bolster student participation in our programs.

Engaging K-12 Students

Cultural Passport

We work with the Miami-Dade County Cultural Affairs Council’s ‘Cultural Passport’ program to bring widely acclaimed performing artists to thousands of Miami-Dade County Public School students.

Building Green Schools

LAM has recently partnered with local environmental organization, Dream In Green to create a new STEAM initiative for K-12 students called ECOCultura: Building Green Schools through the Arts, which helps youth address the current climate crisis through activities that integrate science and the arts into targeted lessons.
