LALA Performance Series: CIRCA/MIA & Such Rooted Things

Live Arts Miami is proud to present a special double-bill of new climate-conscious dance works by Dale Andree and Sandra Portal-Andreu, the second installment in the LALA Performance Series featuring unforgettable new performances addressing climate change and sustainability produced by our 2020/2021 LALA Artists In Residence. The works will be presented free at PAMM for two nights only in the adjacent Palm Terrace outdoors, featuring sweeping views of Biscayne Bay.

Both artists have created short films, that live alongside their performances, which will be available for viewing inside PAMM from May 13-16. Click here for museum hours and to reserve a timeslot. Entry fee required. The films will also be available for viewing on your mobile device via QR code at the event. Also, pack a picnic, and explore an outdoor trail of artworks before or after the show as part of PAMM’s Fresh Air | Fresh Art™ experience in Maurice A. Ferré Park.

CIRCA/MIA Ever wonder what Miami will be like in the year 2050? What if we asked our children? Sandra Portal Andreu’s Circa/MIA is a one-of-a-kind multi-media performance and film exploring visions of Miami’s future based on drawings, interviews, and dialogue with 37 children across Miami-Dade County, and performed by six of the children’s mothers. The performance is accompanied by the eclectic live sounds of Miami’s own, Afrobeta. Explore how the hopes and dreams of a child can inform our notions of the past, present, and future of our coastal city on the brink of climate crisis.

Such Rooted Things is a new dance work that speaks powerfully to its place and time, connecting our human stories to the environment in which we live and the fragile ecology of coastal South Florida. The work combines movement, film, and original music into a multidimensional theater experience that is at once timely, relevant and poignant, exploring climate change through an intergenerational lens. Such Rooted Things Conceived by Dale Andree. Choreography by Thryn Saxon, Brad Beakes, and Dale Andree with NWD Project Dancers.
