ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS

Jen CastroverdeProfessional vocal and acting coach. A Registered Rodenburg Teacher (RRT), Jennifer is RRT fluent in both English and Spanish. She worked out of Michael Howard Studios in NYC, where she taught in the Patsy Rodenburg Master Teacher Certification program. She is also currently certifying with Louis Colaianni in his technique of Phonetic Pillows. Jennifer has trained actors across the US, Central and South America, the Caribbean, Spain, and Italy. She provides vocal, acting, and speech training, as well as accent reduction. Jennifer’s work has taken her around the country, giving workshops at universities and professional theater companies. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor at New World School of the Arts, where she directed productions of Federico Garcia Lorca’s Yerma and Blood Wedding, Tony Kushner’s Angels in America: Millennium Approaches and Bright Room Called Day, Sam Shepard’s Action, and Jose Rivera’s Marisol.
Jennifer also taught at FIU in Miami and VASTA in New York City. Jennifer is a SAG and Equity actress who has worked in film, television, and theater. On stage, Jennifer has worked at La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego, Actor’s Playhouse in Miami, Florida, and with critically acclaimed companies A Noise Within and Circus Theatricals in Los Angeles. She has worked as a Principal in several national commercials for companies such as Target and Home Depot. Jennifer holds an MFA in Acting from the University of California San Diego, where she studied and worked with critically acclaimed directors, including Les Waters, Andrei Belgrader, Brian Kulick, and Mark WingDavey.

Sandra Portal-AndreuMiami-based Multidisciplinary Artist, and Choreographer of Colombian/Cuban descent. Her work is deeply rooted in community, social practice, and identity, exploring themes of culture, motherhood, and nature utilizing various mediums and spaces. Ms. Portal-Andreu independently creates and presents work throughout the community, mixing dance with dialogue to create audience-engaged performance activations. Portal-Andreu’s work has been supported by the Miami-Dade County Dept. of Cultural Affairs, Live Arts Miami, Movement Research at the Judson Church/ NYC, Miami Light Project, Sarasota Contemporary Dance, Miami-Dade Public Library System, Dance on Camera NYC, PBS’ Filmmaker Project, The Deering Estate, NALAC, among others. Sandra is a 2021 Dance Miami Choreographers grant recipient. Portal-Andreu holds an MS in Movement Science from Barry University, BFA from Florida State University, and AA from the New World School of the Arts. She trained with renowned Director/Actor Thomas Richards at the Grotowski Workcentre in Pontedera, Italy. Her performance experience includes Arts Ballet Theatre of South Florida, Josée Garant Dance, Florida Grand Opera, Miami City Ballet, and Juggerknot Theater Company. A mother of two boys, educator, and arts cultivator, she has worked with institutions such as the New World School of the Arts, City Theatre, Barry University, Nova Southeastern University, and ProjectArt Miami.

This program is part of Live Arts Miami LABS, a new series of professional development opportunities designed to fuel and celebrate Miami’s artist ecosystem. Both emerging and established artists can discover opportunities to refine skills, develop creative practice, and push artistic boundaries, while fostering meaningful collaborations. Through a series of master classes, mentorship from touring artists and industry experts, and thought-provoking seminars on timely topics in our field, LABS aim to provide Miami artists with a dynamic gateway to grow, explore and ultimately create.

2-Day Workshop Fee:$40

Fees will be waived for current MDC students. A valid student ID and 2-day commitment are required. Students who reserve a space and do not attend will lose their benefit of registering to attend free workshops or performances in the future.
