Live Arts Miami is proud to welcome Rosie Herrera as our 2025/2026 Artist in Residence—an electrifying force in contemporary dance and a beloved pillar of South Florida’s artistic community.
Throughout the season, Rosie will lead a series of public workshops and intimate creative encounters, culminating in a major new performance work developed in collaboration with local artists and audiences. Expect bold theatricality, emotional complexity, and genre-defying movement, all hallmarks of Rosie’s deeply human and wildly imaginative choreographic voice.
ABOUT ROSIE HERRERA
Rosie Herrera is a Cuban-American choreographer and the artistic director of the internationally acclaimed Rosie Herrera Dance Theater, based in Miami. Known for blending dance, theater, cabaret, and visual art into rich, cinematic performances, her work challenges convention and invites audiences into visceral, often surreal worlds of beauty, humor, and heartbreak.
A fixture of Miami’s cultural landscape and a rising star on the national stage, Rosie has been commissioned by prestigious institutions such as:

- José Limón Dance Company
- New Dialect
- Houston Met Dance
- New World Symphony
- Cincinnati Symphony
Her interdisciplinary collaborations span from the iconic Walter Mercado to celebrated artists like Carlota Guerrero, Larry Keigwin, Pig Iron Theater Company, and more. Her accolades include the United States Artists Fellowship, Princess Grace Award, and a Guggenheim Fellowship, affirming her impact and vision in the contemporary dance world. She is also the inaugural 2024 Knight Choreographic Fellow, continuing to pioneer work that blurs boundaries and elevates Miami’s artistic voice on the global stage.

Get ready to dive into process, physicality, and experimentation at Hot ‘N Heavy: Rigorous Play —the summer edition of Rosie Herrera Dance Theatre’s exploratory workshop series. From August 9–11, 2025, join Rosie Herrera and co-teacher Dito Van Reigersberg for three full days of devising, making, embracing vulnerability, and radical play.
This intimate workshop will explore the intersection of dance, cabaret, and character through guided improvisation, vocal exploration, and collaborative performance-making. Mornings will emphasize voice and movement based practices, while afternoons will focus on creating original cabaret-inspired material rooted in dance theater. Expect bold discoveries, big feelings, and plenty of glitter! Whether you are a performer, maker, or curious creative, Hot ‘N Heavy provides an excellent opportunity to collaborate with and learn from like-minded artists.
