Announcing the return of Live Arts Miami’s Live Arts LABS Alliance (LALA) program, a community for diverse artists and performance enthusiasts to nurture their craft, share insights, push boundaries, and connect with kindred spirits. Reimagined as an open studio format, LALA aims to serve as a space of gathering and exploration for Miami’s community of performing artists. LALA gathers in Miami Dade College’s – Koubek Center every month from 2pm-5pm.
Step into the unknown and activate the space within an improvisational framework, guided by established creators during monthly sessions. Prepare to share practices, exchange viewpoints and dive deep into group discussions. No structured steps, just the collective spirit of fellow artists sharing their unique practices of embodiment, movement, and performance exploration.
The introductory sessions will be led by Octavio Campos, a Miami-based creative instigator, who will delve into the transformative power of embodiment in fostering care, community, and self, creating a free-flowing space of no judgment and the freedom to just be.
LALA Open Studio is free and open to everyone. All that is required is for you to bring your authentic self, curious body and an open mind. Let’s move, create, and explore together!

LALA is part of Live Arts Miami’s professional development umbrella LABS, which provides Miami artists with a nurturing and dynamic environment to grow, explore and create. Both emerging and established artists can discover opportunities to refine skills, develop creative practice, and push artistic boundaries, while fostering meaningful collaborations with kindred spirits. Through a series of master classes, monthly gatherings, creative intensives and thought-provoking seminars, LABS is a dynamic gateway for Miami artists to grow, explore and ultimately create.
LALA COMMUNITY GUIDELINES
- ETHOS: We explore performance without constraints, guided by the thrill of discovery. We engage in self-proclaimed practices, fostering inner exploration, awe and collective wonder.
- DIVERSITY STATEMENT: We actively seek to assemble diverse cohorts. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, age, religion, gender expression, sexual orientation, national origin, citizenship status, marital status, veteran status, medical conditions including HIV, or sensory, physical, or mental disability.
- PROXIMITY & CONSENT: We foster a consent-based culture, prioritizing “yes” over waiting for “no” in shared space interactions. While striving for this, we acknowledge imperfection. Workshops entail physical and emotional risks. LALA prioritizes safety while recognizing inherent practice risks.
- SELF CARE: We listen to our body during movement sessions, showing kindness and gentleness, and taking breaks as needed while respecting our limits. Set clear boundaries, decline activities that don’t align with our needs, and prioritize hygiene to embrace a holistic approach to self-care and growth.
- BOUNDARIES:
- The studio space will be open from 2pm to 5pm.
- Be mindful of those sharing the space with you.
- If you need your own sound, headphones are encouraged.
