Whether you’re a recent grad or a seasoned dance professional working in South Florida, this workshop is guaranteed to challenge and inspire you, as you learn a new physical movement vocabulary and hone your skills under Mike’s guidance.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Mike TyusMike Tyus is an award-winning dancer, choreographer, and creative director from Los Angeles, CA. He has been performing and creating dance works for the stage and screen for over 15 years. As a performer Tyus has performed in Cirque Du Soleil in “IRIS” and “KOOZA”, at the Oscars, and with singer/songwriter Sia. Tyus’ choreographic work derives from techniques and styles from his past. Circus theater, acrobatics, ballet, and Greco-Roman wrestling are abstracted and synthesized to create something unique. In 2020, Tyus directed and choreographed a dance film called ELSEWHERE that was showcased on PBS. He also choreographed a culturally significant Facebook commercial directed by FKA Twigs that now lives in the MOMA’s archives.  That same year, Tyus created Mike Tyus & Co, a dance company that focuses on the creation of Tyus’ work with over 13 films and the creation of a piece called “Hunger” developed at Orsolina28, a dance residency in Moncalvo, Italy. As a creative director Tyus has developed branded campaigns for Anthropologie, Veuve Clicquot, Apple, and more, focusing on the relationship between dance and commerce.  Community and Creation are at the core of Tyus’ mission and continue to drive his efforts in crafting work that feeds the human spirit and reflect the times in which we live.

This program is part of Live Arts Miami LABS, a new series of professional development opportunities designed to fuel and celebrate Miami’s artist ecosystem. Both emerging and established artists can discover opportunities to refine skills, develop creative practice, and push artistic boundaries, while fostering meaningful collaborations. Through a series of master classes, intensive workshops and thought-provoking seminars on timely topics in our field, LABS aim to provide Miami artists with a dynamic gateway to grow, explore and ultimately create.
