Considered one of the foremost masters of Odissi in the world, Bijayini Satpathy is renowned the world over for her grace and she embodies the spirit and profound storytelling of classical Indian dance in a way few others have achieved. Now, in the prime of her artistic life, Satpathy embarks on a journey to expand the tradition through her own choreographic work.

After 25 years as Principal Dancer with India’s famed Nrityagram Dance Ensemble, Satpathy strikes out on her own to create this singular solo work that radically integrates Odissi’s past and proposes its possible futures. In this evening – length choreographic debut, Satpathy reimagines classical Odissi forms through a personalized interpretation that charts a journey of discovery in physical, emotional, and spiritual realms. This critical success, a dramatic exploration and reshaping of an ancient tradition, has catapulted Satpathy to the forefront of the field. Satpathy has been hailed by New Yorker Magazine for her “exquisite grace and technique” and by international press around the world for her unparalleled artistic expression.
